About TEI

Since 1994 the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), a global non-profit membership organization composed of academic institutions, research projects, and scholars, has provided a standard for the representation of texts in digital form. The TEI Guidelines specify encoding methods for machine-readable texts, chiefly in the humanities, social sciences and linguistics.
