The proverbial “less is more” guideline applies to the brief information you will create when you establish your blog and create a blog title, a short description (tag line), and a longer description (about) for your blog.
Web Blog Title If you look on the Expert Voices gateway page you will see a list of all NSDL blog titles. The ones that wrap around to a second line look complicated. Your blog title should make readers want to click on it and explore right away instead of having to think about whether they understand what the blog is about from a long title. The blog title “markets” the information you will discuss in your blog. If you have a big concept such as, “Comparing insect infestations in mountain climate crops: researchers share field notes,” you could abbreviate it to, “Insect Impact on Mountain Crops.” In a busy blogosphere where you are competing for readers’ attention an abbreviated title may inspire a quick look that will allow you to present in-depth content once they are reading your blog.
Tag Line This is a one-line description of your blog. If you had to shorten a lengthy title, this is the place to enter the longer, more descriptive version of your blog’s name.
About Your Blog This is a longer, optional, description of your blog that may also serve as an introduction to topics or activities. Three or four sentences should be enough. If a longer explanation is necessary consider putting it into the initial blog post.
