This tutorial will walk you through becoming a logged-in user of Expert Voices. Expert Voices uses NSDL’s (http://nsdl.org) authentication system. You will be signing into NSDL and redirected back to Expert Voices, where you will register the first time. Once you are registered at Expert Voices, you can comment to existing blog posts and be added to blogs as a contributor (able to publish your own posts).
Please open a new window to your blog and follow the instructions below.
1. Registering a user account in NSDL
2. Signing into Expert Voices
3. Registering at Expert Voices
4. Requesting post permission in a specific blog
1. Registering a user account in NSDL
NSDL Registration and Sign-in are the equivalent of applying for and receiving a Library card. When you register and sign in with NSDL, you are recognized by NSDL and its associated services. See the NSDL Privacy Policy for answers regarding NSDL’s use of your personal information.
To register, choose the Sign In link in the right-side navigation.
Page down and fill out the information under Create a New NSDL Account. Providing your full name or email address is optional to register, however, entering an email address enables you to request your NSDL password should you lose track of it, and it allows you to update your registration information at a later time. Also, some interactions at Expert Voices may not work if you do not have an email for your account. We do NOT share email addresses with others.
You should see a page verifying that your NSDL Registration Completed. From this page, follow the Sign In link.
Enter your nsdl.org username and password and click on Sign In.
You should see a screen which confirms that you were successfully authenticated as a registered user.
You should be automatically returned to Expert Voices. If not, go to to the specific blog address that you want to join or go to http://expertvoices.nsdl.org and find your blog in the list of Expert Voices blogs.
Be sure you go to your email inbox and click on the link in the email with the subject line: NSDL Registration Email Verification.
The link will go to a page that confirms your email is verified.

3. Registering at Expert Voices
Assuming you are a registered user and signed into nsdl.org (see step 1 and 2 above), you will need to register with Expert Voices the first time you come back to the blog as a signed in user.
In the blog you want to participate in, please click on the link Register with Expert Voices in the right hand sidebar.
You will see a screen that asks you to register and informs you that your contributions at Expert Voices will need to comply with the Creative Commons license (Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5) and that your nsdl.org email is being stored, but will not be exposed to the public.
4. Requesting post permission in a specific blog
Once you are registered and signed in (see steps 1-3) with ExpertVoices, visit the blog you want to participate in. There will be a link in the right hand sidebar called “Request Post Permission”. This will provide you with an email to the blog team leader.
* Please provide the email you registered with at nsdl.org if its different than the one you email them with. They’ll use this to find you in the system. Also, if you have not communicated with the group prior to this, it would be good to give a short explanation of your interest in this blog.
Once the team leader approves your membership, you’ll be able to start posting. Some blogs have a specific educational mission in mind and may decline your request to join the group. If you have a good idea for a new blog topic or discovery team, please let us know!
Good luck and have fun!
